Hard Monday recap
Last night was very fun. It wasn’t as busy as it was the week before, but last week the Vikings game added to the crowd. This week it was still pretty busy and there were a fair amount of non-darksiders, but they danced to pretty much everything. (Although you can tell in the playlist that early in the night a pretty fair amount of non-darksider music was played) During my solo hour at the end people danced to the stompy stuff much more then I thought they would. I did get kinda cliché during the last hour, but I hadn’t had a really good last hour dance floor in quite a few weeks so I wanted to make sure I kept it. I did see some new darksider faces and they all seemed to have fun. I tried something kinda goofy going into the last song of the night. I used the CDJ’s wide setting (meaning you can effect the pitch up to + or – 100%) to increase 6 underground from its normal 90ish bpm up to 130ish to mix it into the Sisters song I was playing. I did it with a 8 beat loop of the being of 6 underground, then when I was completely over to the song I slowly slowed it down to it’s normal speed and unlooped the beginning. I don’t think it sounded too fucked up, and if it did…well it was the last song and I wanted to try something fun.
Bondage a G0-Go recap
Last Thursday was a very strange night. The club was taken over by a huge group of swingers. They must have had a special monthly outing, because there were at least 100 of them. Of course this wouldn’t be a big deal at all except we had a very low turnout of our normal darksiders. This meant the swingers ruled the dance floor for most of the night. They would pretty much only dance to things they had heard before, which cut out a HUGE chunk of our normal Thursday music. I didn’t have to much of a problem with it, but DJ Overdrive struggled reading them a few times during the night. I also made one of the biggest bone head rookie DJ mistakes I’ve made in years. It was right at the end of the night, (1:40-1:45ish) and I was outside having a smoke. I come in and take over for Overdrive to play the last few songs while he gets ready to close the bars down. (Overdrive is also the manager) I go into Skullfuck by Modulate a song that I just love and have been pimping pretty hard the last few weeks (It’s become a pretty big hit now). About 1 minute into the song a regular comes up to the booth and is giving me a really funny look. I ask what’s wrong and he informs me that Overdrive just played that song. FUCK!! I didn’t look at the playlist because Overdrive had never played that song before so I wasn’t worried about it. I quickly mixed out of the song and did a speed mix set of about 4 or 5 songs during the last 10 min to try and make the end of the night a little bit cool, but I had already blown it by then. D’OH. I don’t have the Thursday playlist with me but I’ll try and get it up in the next day or two if I have the time.
