Halloween

October 31, 2005

Whew, what a last week. I’ve been working 9-12 hours a day at the costume shop all week (except today) Thursday night I spun with Chuck. Mark wasn’t there so we had a lot of freedom =)

Then Friday I was too wiped out from working all day to go to Io’s party (Plus I knew I had a crazy long day/night ahead of me.)

Saturday did a open to close. Then went home and got dressed into a different costume and K and I went to Ground Zero. Zero was about what I expected. Some very cool costumes, lots of fun people I know, dumb skit (what was that?) on stage. Then it became too crowded, then way too crowded. From there I went to this party. We must of gotten there around 1:00ish. It was a very cool party. Physically the place was fucking awesome. There were different themed areas that you could hang out in all over the place, plus little secret coves and cubbies. The band was a kind of jazzy, calypso thing that was really good. The place is owned by an artist, so he (I think it was him) was everywhere taking pictures. There are 443 pictures from that party available online. (Including at least one of me) We pulled into Perkins around 5:00, made it home by 6:00ish… and then a full day of sleep.

Tomorrow is the last day at the Halloween shop for me. (If anyone wants good deals, everything we have will be 50 – 90% off I’m in the Rosedale Halloween fun shop, first floor next to Herbergers) Then I think I may be heading to First Ave. (Steve is also having an impromptu party that could be interesting.)

Funnest Thursday ever

October 21, 2005

Ok, that is not say a lot… but still. Mark (and Chuck) are giving me more freedom each and every week. This week was the best ever. I did have a ton of fun tonight and I think I put on a pretty good show. (plus we were fairly busy which is a good thing) Thanks to everyone who came out.

ALL that said, I have no where near the freedom I have on Mondays (I have the early shift this week) or the occasional Friday’s I work at GZ. (I am spinning tomorrow)

I hope to see people out tomorrow… (Tonight really)

Goodnight all!

October 19, 2005

Pretty disapointing night. Dancefloor was very slow except for about an hour from 12:15ish-1:15ish. I didn’t have it at all. My mixing was fine, but I just couldn’t read the crowd for some reason. Bar sales were pretty good, so I guess that’s what is important.

I have to early shift next week.

Weekend

October 16, 2005

Thursday: Good show, night was ok. Would have been better without so much micro management… I don’t think I should get to much into it. I did play some cool shit…. and I also had to play some stuff I am not to proud of.

Friday: Worked all day, watched the Family Guy movie – loved it.

Saturday: Went to the drag show at the Gay 90’s, it was up to their normal standard, pretty entertaining – all the music is totally Diva stuff but the girls do a very nice job. After that we went to the new Saturday night at First Ave, it was ok at best. The main room was fairly dead, the DJ’s were all the boys who have been there forever (Roy Freedom, the other guy who has been there forever and I can never remember his name and John Smith) they were playing pretty good music (A mix of hipster stuff and electronica) but the dancefloor was never very good and sadly it became slower as the night went on. The VIP room was playing pretty good house, that room actually became pretty busy by the time we left (2:00ish). Unfortunately it is very hard for me to be in that room without thinking I’m at a Kobalt or E27. It just wasn’t the same. The whole time I was there, in either room, I was wishing I was spinning. I hate that feeling – and that usually means I’m thinking I could do a better job…. which is not a good sign.

I did run into a ton of people I haven’t seen in forever, that was really cool.

Time for bed.

PS – I have the late shift on Monday.

Hard Monday update

October 11, 2005

Tonight was pretty good. The crowd wasn’t super dancy which sucked. But we played a ton of requests and I think at least the people who asked for songs had a good time. (I’m pretty sure I made a few people very happy early in the night) ;-P

The fill-in bartender we had was very good…. a bit too good maybe. I didn’t really want to drink much tonight (No really, I didn’t) but he was viscous. I left with a pretty good buzz and I wasn’t trying at all, that is saying a lot.

I hope everyone had fun. The dance floor was so sporadic it was hard to tell.

October 10, 2005

Early shift for me tonight. Seems like forever since I’ve worked a Monday. (even though I only missed one week.)

Are you really down with the sickness?

October 9, 2005

Do you like sick, twisted and disturbing movies? Then I have the movie for you… Audition. Wow is that a really good, but REALLY sick movie.

Try to learn as little about the plot as possible. If you get it at Amazon DON’T READ THE REVIEWS or the “Plot Synopsis”. Try not to even read the back of the box. It’s best enjoyed if you know nothing about it at all. You can rent it at Blockbuster, Netflix or any other rental place. I would also recommend watching the subtitled version instead of the dubbed one. You will miss some good voice inflections with the dubbed version.

As a warning, this is movie is nothing like an American horror movie. There is no killing before the opening credits. The movie starts very slowly, you will never know it’s a horror film, you may even wonder what the fuck you are doing watching this… Until the movie switches gears, and it will. From that point on, look out.

I can’t remember the last time a horror movie got to me as much as this one did.
